On 4 April 2011, the Republic of Angola deposited with the Secretary General of the World Customs Organization its instrument of accession to the International Convention on the Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System (Harmonized System).
Considering that more than 98% of international merchandise trade is classified in terms of the Harmonized System, the WCO is pleased to welcome Angola as the 139th Contracting Party to the HS Convention and looks forward to Angola’s active participation with respect to Harmonized System matters.
Angola has been a Member of the WCO since 26 September 1990. The country is located in south-central Africa bordered by Namibia in the south, the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the north, and Zambia in the east with the Atlantic Ocean forming its western border. Its principal export commodities are crude oil, diamonds, refined petroleum products, coffee, sisal, fish and fish products, timber, and cotton. Angola’s principal import commodities are machinery and electrical equipment, vehicles and spare parts; medicines, food, textiles, and military goods.
The Harmonized System Convention will enter into force in Angola on 1 January 2013, unless Angola decides to specify an earlier date.
